Israel in Kenya: Embu County

Israel in Kenya Update: Embu County:

There are great partnership developments that have been going on all over the nation of Kenya in the different counties and here is a brief of the highlights:

A project to establish a model 8-acre farm has been on course since 2021 with an objective to train, transfer technology for smallholder farms in the county. Embu County is one of the county’s serving as a foothill to the mighty Mt. Kenya and with a majority Bantu speaking population of the Embu and located in Eastern Kenya.

A key objective of the project is research (Munene, 2021) into soil, weather patterns and help identify crops suitable for the county. According to Munene the then Israeli Ambassador, Oded Joseph noted that Israeli is known for scouting for where they can forge partnerships which bring forth mutual benefit for both nations.

This will be a great platform for the county in drawing value and expertise from Israeli Agritech companies recognized globally for beneficial technology and knowledge transfer which will help in fulling Sustainable Development Goals like poverty alleviation, zero hunger, decent work and economic growth among others. Historically Israeli partnership in Kenya has seen emergence of vibrant business communities as in the case of Kibwezi.

Earlier in January 2021, the county hosted the Israeli Embu County Agrifair held at the University of Embu promoting the need for cooperation between the county and the nation of Israel.

We look forward to reporting of great progress in this project in the future.
